Remembrance Day Poems by Josiah

My son has written a couple of poems about Remembrance Day – he said that I could share them with you today…

Remember

On a cold, sunny day a sign was hung.

It said ”come, serve your country and family, join the fight.”

So our heroes left one by one, to make it right.

The journey was painful and long, but our brave heroes pushed on to amend the wrong.

The days passed, harsh and cold. But that did nothing to stop these hearts of gold.

Screams and shots filled the air, blood would flow and fires would flare.

Children would weep and mothers would cry, and those lucky men that came back had pain in their eyes.

Our heroes were exposed to pain and fear, but they fought on for the ones they held dear.

Their life was an unending nightmare, but they pressed on to make it all fair.

They continued to fight in that miserable hell, they fought to make things well.

Screams and shots filled the air, blood would flow and fires would flare.

Children would weep and mothers would cry, and the lucky men that came back had pain in their eyes.

Our heroes fought continuously, bound together in unity.

One day there was good news.  The war is over, and we didn’t lose!

It was finally over and they could be glad, for they could return to the joy they once had.

And so they went back to their countrys, knowing they had set people free.

So please don’t forget what these heroes did for you, they gave their lives to make it right.

Remembrance Day 2013

Today is Remembrance Day, and what did you just say?

You said “big deal, it’s their job.” Well I say shut up unless you want me to make you sob.

When everybody else works through the night, they don’t have to worry about seeing mornings light.

When other people have taxes due that day, they don’t use their lives to pay.

When you think of Remembrance Day as just another thing to do, you disrespect all the heroes that died for you.

Imagine fear worse than you’ve ever felt before, and that’s what people experience every day fighting a war.

Remember that video game where you had to shoot someone?  I bet in real life it isn’t so fun.

So how about you be quiet and give some respect to our soldiers, because they have a massive weight on their shoulders.

Please give them respect, for they have the hardest job of all.  For they don’t know if today is the day they fall.

I’m not asking, you I’m telling you, I’m telling you.  Respect our soldiers, it’s the right thing to do.

When someone dies, they get taken to a hospital right away.  In the middle of a battle, they rest eternally where they lay.

Things overseas are not the same, for death is just another component in wars cruel game.

There’s one day annually where remember those who died for me, and I do it solemnly.

For you to not care, or even dismiss it outright, is dismissing one soul that died in a fight.

I have one word, and I hope it has some effect, here it is.  RESPECT.
